AACC receives world-renowned researcher Prof. Josef Penninger
The world-leading researcher, geneticist and immunologist Prof. Josef Penninger paid a visit to the Austro-Arab Chamber of Commerce on Friday, 14 August 2020, where the AACC Secretary General Eng. Mouddar Khouja cordially welcomed him for cooperative talks.
The Secretary General Khouja opened the discussion of potential scopes of cooperation with Arab countries, and the idea of establishing modern and state-of-the-art research centers and scientific units in Arab countries. In this context, Prof. Penninger stressed the vital role of international research institutions supported by public funds and entities with local research units and networks in different countries.
Speaking about the developments of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing research for medication and treatments, Prof. Penninger mentioned the potential release of a medicine in the last quarter of this year. In the context of recent developments of vaccines against the COVID-19 infection, the Professor noted the early release of vaccines with some scepticism.
With her mission to promote and enhance scientific cooperation between Austria and the Arab countries, the Austro-Arab Chamber of Commerce will be active to support the interaction and scientific exchange with Prof. Penninger for the benefit of science, cooperation and humanity.
A first initiative was already realised in June 2020, where specialists including Prof. Penninger and many other high-level Arab and European experts from the economic and medical fields successfully participated in the AACC Webinar on “COVID-19-PANDEMIC Economic Experts' Presentation: Analyses, Best Practices, Lessons and Strategies”. The webinar received a very positive echo, particularly among the Arab audience, the Secretary General informed.
